Project Controller

General Description

The Project Controller will be responsible for assisting the Project Managers, Operations Directors, and other Project Controllers with all facets of project execution. Key to this role will be the ability to effectively liaise between Project Management, Project Controls, and Corporate Accounting with the ability to ensure appropriate information sharing and risk/performance management. This position will be expected to implement project cost reporting to track, monitor, analyze and report progress in real time. In addition, the Project Controller will be responsible for effectively capturing, tracking, and measuring a broad range of project financial, budget, and cost information to satisfy project accounting, monthly close, and client requirements.

Work assignments may include multiple concurrent projects. While not otherwise involved in project-specific work, the Project Controller will support other project accounting functions.


  • Works with Operations and Accounting to ensure proper consideration and execution of job setup based on the contract terms, billing, and internal reporting and performance management requirements
  • Ensures completeness of cost, billing, and contract value modifications through interaction with transaction processing teams and project controls teams
  • Serves as accounting liaison to project operations, when necessary; and provides deep functional knowledge of project objectives, risks, strategies, and performance expectations
  • Assists the CFO to ensure the completeness and accuracy of monthly project forecasts
  • Manages, tracks, and reports project costs and accruals to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
  • Prepares, manages, and updates project budgets, budget transfers, forecasts, variances, and other updates
  • Assists with monthly progress and management reports
  • Supports monthly project reviews to help ensure that all contractual and performance risks and issues are properly addressed
  • Contributes to process improvement for project controls, project reviews, project accounting and reporting
  • Supports internal and external audits
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures

Required Experience and Education

  • 5+ years of project accounting/ project controls experience with multi-year design and construction projects >$100M
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Construction Science/Management, Engineering, or equivalent field; equivalent work experience, or combination of work and education, may be substituted

Preferred Experience and Education

  • Project accounting/ project controls experience with multi-year design and construction projects, specifically within the EPC space > $100M
  • JDE and/or EcoSys experiences is a plus


  • Self-starter who can work independently while supporting the needs of the team
  • Knowledge of cost engineering, forecasting, and budget management
  • Understanding of the project work breakdown structure (WBS) for projects
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally to all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities; capable of managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Sound decision making and problem-solving skills
