General Description
The Safety Manager manages the overall safety and health for each project assigned. In addition, this position oversees the subcontractor and vendor on-site personnel from a safety perspective, including any safety representatives assigned to their projects. This position serves as the primary point of contact for safety related programs/incidents and interfaces with clients.
Duties
- Leads project safety and health initiatives for each project assigned
- Oversees subcontractor and vendor on-site personnel from a safety perspective
- Proactively helps and supports crew members to achieve a safe work environment
- Collaborates with Construction operations to support weekly safety meetings
- Conducts project observations
- Communicates with client safety representatives
- Conducts Safety onboarding training for new crew members
- Conducts accident and incident investigations
- Reviews and understands all project specific safety requirements, customer safety requirements, and QISG safety requirements; ensures compliance at project sites
- Reviews subcontractor safety plans
- Creates and updates safety plans
- Ensures proper reporting from subcontractors (JHA’s, tailboards, etc.)
- Manages project roster and ensures adequate training for all field personnel
- Performs any other duties assigned
- Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures
Required Experience and Education
- High school diploma, or equivalent
- 4+ years’ experience in a safety role within high voltage substation, transmission, and distribution construction environments
Preferred Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety related field
- OSHA 10 and 30 certifications
- AED/CPR/First Aid training/certifications
- Safety certifications (ASP, CSP, OHST, CHST, CUSP, etc.)
Skills
- Knowledge of OSHA legislation/requirements, resources, and inspection process
- Working knowledge of Minimum Approach Distances (M.A.D.)
- Must be able to read and understand electrical system One Line drawings
- Self-starter
- Ability to work well independently, as well as part of a team
- Strong problem evaluation/solving skills
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with other team members
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
