Our team was selected by GCPUD for their multi-million dollar Substation Reliability Program. We were challenged to successfully design and build eight substations sites in 18 months working around critical outages, resource availability between multiple subcontractors and harsh weather conditions utilizing a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) Approach. The projects were accomplished in phases with completion in mid-2017. To meet the schedule, QISG utilized three separate design teams with one quality control team reviewing all drawings to maintain consistency.

With this approach a GMP is established, then executed under a reimbursable contract. The approach has provided the following benefits to the district:

  • Owner collaboration throughout all phases
  • Validation period (conceptual package, scope and cost development)
  • Open negotiations and owner approval on vendors and subcontractors
  • Guaranteed completions dates (milestones)
  • Shared contingency

Our integrated delivery team provided life-cycle cost analysis, surveying, geotechnical engineering, design, estimating, equipment procurement, scheduling, permitting, construction and testing and commissioning for this program. All work was subcontracted; none was self-performed.  The projects showcase our strength as a multi-discipline company, as all aspects of the work were performed in-house, except construction and geotechnical studies. We also facilitated the coordination with multiple stakeholders for each project site, working with multiple owner representatives (project management and engineering) through the life of the program.
